CariCord Appoints Ratan D Bhardwaj, MD, PhD as Global Medical Director

Irvine, CA – June 1, 2015 CariCord, Inc. (www.caricord.com), the Cord Blood Bank at University of Colorado's highly regarded ClinImmune Labs, announces that Dr. Ratan Bhardwaj joins the company as Global Medical Director.

Dr. Bhardwaj, a pediatric neurosurgeon, holds a PhD from the Nobel Medical Institute at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, with a focus on human stem cell dynamics in the brain and heart, a medical degree from Queen's University in Canada, and his undergraduate degree in biology from Western University. He is a graduate of the University of Toronto Neurosurgical Residency Training Program.

Following his training, Dr. Bhardwaj completed fellowships in clinical pediatric neurosurgery and stem cell research at the Sanford Burnham Institute in La Jolla, California and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, California. In addition to being a pediatric neurosurgeon, he is also pursuing translational bench research in order to help find solutions for children with neurological disorders. He sees great promise in regenerative medicine and would like to see this innovative field transform conventional medicine in the years ahead.

Dr. Bhardwaj has great interest and knowledge in aspects of neuroplasticity, cellular regeneration, restorative surgery, epigenetics, and cell differentiation. His graduate thesis took an innovative perspective of examining human cellular turnover by using fallout from global hydrogen fusion atomic bomb testing. Furthermore, he has a strong interest in space medicine, and has been involved in the International Space University, as well as working at the NASA Ames and Johnson space centers.
